Genocide Education | The Holocaust | The Armenian Genocide | Other Genocides
Michigan’s Public Act 170 of 2016 includes in its mandate that students receive instruction on the general topic of Genocide, and also specifically on two historic examples of genocide: the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust. MHGE recognizes that teachers and students have interest and need to expand their study and understanding of incidents of genocide beyond these two examples.
The resources here are introductory, meant to be useful for teachers new to genocide studies. There are sites and resources here that can be found elsewhere on this site, often linked to those museums, universities, and organizations who are leaders in the field. The study of any one genocide or the history of genocides and mass atrocity could be the study of a lifetime, and there are scholars and educators who continue to research and publish in these ever-evolving fields. MHGE recommends that teachers of genocide always remain students of genocide; as classroom experience and content knowledge expands, there will always be more to learn.
